I'm trying to add a newsletter signup pop up to a group. I generated code using Mailchimp's popup generator and inserting it as a widget (code below).

This is does not seem to be working.

Can you advise me on how to inset a popup to get people to sign up for a newsletter?

Also, if we open the site (no longer require signing in to access), can user access public groups without signing in?

Thank you,

Hi Simon,

That code works for me when I put it into a widget on a test site.  Can you tell me which group you're adding it to, and which page within the group?

I created a custom widget named Mail Chimp, did NOT check Display in Standard Widget Box, then put it on my home page.  I left that unchecked so that there would not be an empty box visible on the page.

On my next visit to the home page I got the popup. After I dismissed it I did not see the popup again.  My assumption is that Mailchimp is preventing the popup from continually bothering me, and that it only serves the popup once, but I do not know that for sure.

I did some fast googling, and it seems that yes, it will only show once.

Pro-tip: It’s tempting to set up your form to show a popup as soon as visitors open your site. Definitely consider editing the settings to showcase the popup after 5 seconds instead of immediately. The MailChimp form will only show to visitors once! The more time they have to familiarize with your site, the better.

If you've seen the popup once you'll not see it again. You might try an incognito window, that might let it show again.

For the second question, if the site overall is made visible to the public without signing in then Groups which are public will also appear. Groups have general visibility settings in the group General Settings page, and then permissions, which are set on the Permissions page.
